Maruti Suzuki launched an Utsav edition for Alto 800, their popular tiny hatchback on account of the festive season. Not all variants, but the VXi(O) trim that gets this special edition priced at Rs.3.94 lakh. This price is around Rs.20000 (for the accessory kit) more than the outgoing VXi(O) variant. Alto 800 is a vehicle that hasn’t seen much of an upgrade in the recent past, yet managed to remain as one of the best sellers from the company.

As per dealer reports, Toyota Kirloskar India is about to launch the TRD Sportivo variant of the Fortuner in the Indian market. However, we will have to wait until they declare the official launch date after which deliveries of the SUV will begin. The new Fortuner expected to be priced at around Rs.30 lakh, appears trimmed but not shaved and looks exactly like a saber tooth. The company has made the Fortuner switch its expression by giving sharper details like an extended chin, black grille and headlamps.
Tata Motors launched the limited edition Tiago Wizz in the country at a price of Rs.4.52 lakh for the Petrol variant and Rs.5.30 lakh for the Diesel variant (both ex-showroom prices, Delhi).
Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari warned the automobile industry to come up with advanced technology to develop vehicles using alternative fuels instead of petrol and diesel. He also pointed out that he wanted the pollution and import bill to be reduced in the country. At the 57th annual event organized by SIAM to discuss on various programmes for the Automobile Industry, the Transport Minister clearly warned the auto makers that without choice, they will have to move to production of vehicles that run on electricity, bio-diesel, ethanol and compressed natural gas; else he will bulldoze the existing fuel setup completely that is polluting the country. He also added that the government has a crystal clear policy to reduce the import bills of crude oil and arrest pollution to a great extent.

Indian Government is on the move to curb pollution levels in the country taking measures at various levels. The latest one to hear is the mandatory requirement of a valid PUC (Pollution under Control) certificate for insurance renewal. The Honourable Supreme Court under a bench headed by Justice Madan B. Lokur and Justice Deepak Gupta released an order stating that all vehicles in the Delhi-NCR should have a valid PUC certificate to get the insurance renewed annually.
The most anticipated SUV of the year, Jeep Compass was officially launched in India on July 31st 2017. Tygr, a Kolkata-based cab service planner, and provider is trying to take a new step and bring a change in the cab service sector in Mumbai city. The founder and CEO of Tygr, Mr. Aditya Poddar said they are planning to introduce the concept of two wheeler taxis in the city. If the rules of the state allow, the company plans to start the same as soon as possible. Tygr approached Mumbai city initially with 5000 new cabs on roads. The field is already under control of giants like, Ola and Uber, which made Tygr approach the city with something new.

MU-X, A new SUV from Isuzu Motors India was launched in India on Thursday replacing the MU-7 from their Indian line-up. This robust utility vehicle comes in two variants- a 4x2 variant priced at Rs.23.99 lakh and 4x4 variant at Rs.25.99 lakh (Both Ex-showroom Delhi). The MU-X shares its platform with the new-generation D-Max and rivals against the likes of Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. The MU-X had conquered the global market until March 2017 after which a facelifted version of the same was launched there. The facelift MU-X will reach India in another year or so, depending on how good the Indian markets welcome this model here.
Maruti Suzuki has geared up for the launch of its most popular sub compact sedan, the 2017 Dzire in India on May 16th. The company dealerships have officially started to accept bookings for the same at a token amount of Rs.11,000. There is also an option for customers who have already booked the outgoing model to upgrade it to the third generation Dzire.
German Automaker, Volkswagen launched a limited edition of their popular hatchback Polo GT named as Polo GT Sport. Xcent was first introduced in 2014 based on the design of Grand i10, but this time it gets a proper facelift with a host of changes compared to the existing model. April 2017 witnessed the Supreme Court ban of sale/registration on all new BS-III vehicles across India thereby allowing only BS-IV vehicles to go on sale. After years of wait, Toyota has finally brought its luxury car brand Lexus to India. The brand has made its Indian debut with the launch of three new models of which two are hybrid vehicles. The hybrid SUV RX comes in two variants, RX 450h and RX Fsport priced at Rs.1.07 and 1.09 crore respectively, while the price of SUV LX 450d (Diesel only) which is the top end model hasn’t been officially announced yet. However, it is expected to be priced around Rs.2.30 crore. The hybrid sedan ES 300h is priced at Rs.55.27 lakh. All above mentioned prices are ex-showroom prices in Delhi. The three cars which were launched are extremely high in price while comparing it to its rivals in India owing to the currency difference from Yen to INR as they are being imported as CBU units all the way from Japan.
Porsche India launched an All-wheel Drive Panamera Turbo in the country with price ranging from Rs.1.93 crore to Rs.2.05 crore (Ex-showroom Maharashtra) where there will be an executive version too for this model. Honda Cars India launched their much awaited cross over, Honda WR-V yesterday in India. The price ranges from Rs.7.75 lakh to Rs.8.89 lakh for petrol trim and Rs.8.99 lakh to Rs.9.99 lakh for Diesel trim (ex-showroom Delhi). Both the trims are available in two variants named S and VX.
Honda WR-V (Winsome Runabout Vehicle), the sub compact crossover was unveiled at the 2016 Sao Paulo Motor Show in Brazil. Toyota Kirloskar India recently launched the facelift version of their successful model Camry in India with minor cosmetic updates. Sony India launched their new product XAV-AX100, an In-car audio system that not only plays music, but also navigates, communicates and enables smart driving through voice control or touch panel control. The XAV- AX100 is compatible with Android Auto and Apple Car play which is a common feature on almost all vehicles launched recently. Navigation has not been enabled for Car Play in India though.
Honda Mobilio 2017 was revealed earlier this week at the company’s Indonesian website ahead of its global launch. Next time you want to buy a car, you may have to find a parking space for the same as the Union Government has proposed for a new rule that will make it mandatory for all new car owners in Delhi to have a parking space for their vehicle. If implemented, the rule will demand a certificate from the nearby police station after a physical verification by the transport department that proves parking space availability for your new vehicle. Only then can the vehicle registration be done. In short, if you don’t manage to have a parking lot, you will not be able to register the vehicle.

BMW India President, Frank Schloeder had announced that the company will soon feature petrol engines on all their existing models and the process seems to have begun. Jeep, the legendary American utility vehicle brand owned by Fiat-Chrysler started its Indian operations with the launch of its two vehicles - Grand Cherokee and Wrangler.
With days ahead of the festive season, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles India officially launched the Avventura Urban Cross in the nation with introductory prices starting at 6.85 lakh. The deliveries for the early bookings are expected to be handed over by October first week, just in time for the festivities to begin.

It has been over a year since Datsun launched the redi-GO in India and the car has been selling in good numbers all this while. Though they had launched two other budget cars- the GO and GO+ earlier, none of them managed to sell much. This is when the redi-GO arrives as the ‘life-saver’ for the Japanese automaker in the country.
We Indians have been familiar with the term Jeep through many models from Mahindra. Recently did many of us come to realise that Jeep was in fact not a vehicle model, but the American Car maker brand who introduced few of the prestigious SUVs to the world since 1941. Back then, they were named American Motors and were quite popular through the ubiquitous Jeep Willys of that time.
Kolkatta: A city of dirty streets and bungalow type colonies. At the same time, a city of grand residential “palaces” and skyscrapers . City of yellow-painted Ambassador taxis. It was at the last stage of a drive from Kochi to Bhutan that we landed in Kolkatta. The route to Bhutan was from Kochi to Kolkatta-Siliguri-Jaigaon.
This time, the visit to Kolkatta was with a different purpose. The purpose was to test drive the small hatchback DATSUN Redi-GO. This is the vehicle segment that sells most in India. The land of Maruti Alto 800, Hyundai Eon and Reno Quid. Into this market enters DATSUN Redi-Go. The earlier models of DATSUN were GO and GO+. Lack of standard was the reason for their failure. The Indian prefers a vehicle of high standard even if somewhat more costly. The cost-reduction focus was the undoing of GO and GO+.
