Lexus finally reaches India launching LX 450d, RX 450h, ES 300h

After years of wait, Toyota has finally brought its luxury car brand Lexus to India. The brand has made its Indian debut with the launch of three new models of which two are hybrid vehicles. The hybrid SUV RX comes in two variants, RX 450h and RX Fsport priced at Rs.1.07 and 1.09 crore respectively, while the price of SUV LX 450d (Diesel only) which is the top end model hasn’t been officially announced yet. However, it is expected to be priced around Rs.2.30 crore. The hybrid sedan ES 300h is priced at Rs.55.27 lakh. All above mentioned prices are ex-showroom prices in Delhi. The three cars which were launched are extremely high in price while comparing it to its rivals in India owing to the currency difference from Yen to INR as they are being imported as CBU units all the way from Japan.

LX 450d:

The LX 450d is very much similar to Toyota’s Land Cruiser LC200 in terms of structure and mechanicals. What keeps it distinct is the abundance of luxury seen in its interiors that the brand Lexus always promised to offer. Lexus is a brand that has always been popular with petrol hybrid cars, but this time around they have chosen to provide a Diesel model respecting the Indian fancy for diesel engines. Borrowing the engine from Toyota LC 200 seemed easy as well to launch the LX 450d. With the 4.5L V-6 Diesel engine, it produces 272bhp worth power as on the Land Cruiser 200. The cabin comes with superior comfort, lavish space and exquisite off-roading features that keeps it class apart from the LC200.

RX 450h:

This mid-range luxury SUV from Lexus is a five seater with a distinct appearance compared to the other two launched cars with its sharp and contemporary features. It has a massive grille upfront with character lines on the bodywork to exhibit its majestic looks. Interiors are loaded with all latest luxury features including the retractable moon roof and the large 12.3 inch display for infotainment system. Safety features comprise of pre-collision system, lane departure alert and Automatic High Beam which are all part of Lexus Safety System+ package. The RX 450h is powered by a 3.5L V6 petrol engine amalgamated to an electric motor that produces total power worth 308bhp and 361Nm of peak torque. The engine features an 8-speed automatic transmission as in the Toyota Prius Hybrid. RX F sport is also available under this model at a price of Rs.1.09 crore (Ex-showroom Delhi).

ES 300h:

This flagship sedan from Lexus is based on the Toyota Camry Hybrid but comes with state of the art equipment inside the cabin, thereby explaining the reason for the heavier price tag. The razor blade grille on its front is just one of the style elements that draw attention. Much like the other two models, this sedan too has the perfect blend of aesthetically designed exteriors with world class interiors. Under the hood, the ES 300h is equipped with a 2.5L four cylinder petrol engine fused to an electric motor which produces a combined output of 202bhp. This engine is coupled to a CVT gearbox while there is an option to choose between petrol and electric engine independently. Safety features include 10 airbags, Steering Assist, High speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (for speeds above 40kmph) and many more as part of Lexus Safety System+ pack.

Lexus is all set to begin operations in India with near future plans to open dealerships in Mumbai, Bengaluru and Kochi. Deliveries for the vehicles will begin by next week.
