img

Hyundai India recently launched the facelift version of their subcompact sedan Xcent in the country at a starting price of Rs.5.38 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Xcent was first introduced in 2014 based on the design of Grand i10, but this time it gets a proper facelift with a host of changes compared to the existing model. The prices begin at Rs.5.38 lakh for petrol trims and range upto Rs.6.28 lakh for diesel trims (both ex-showroom prices, Delhi).

2017 Hyundai Xcent gets a Cascade design grille upfront as seen on the Elantra, with a new set of headlamps. Revised bumper houses the pair of fog lamps bordered with LED Daytime Running Lamps giving the front fascia a distinctive look from the Grand i10. The two part wrap around tail lights, the prominent chrome strip on the boot lid and a completely revised bumper on its rear gives the overall profile of this new sedan an upmarket look. There is also a shark fin antenna which is a first in segment feature.

The cabin of 2017 Hyundai Xcent gets a dual tone dashboard and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system compatible with Apple Car Play, Android Auto and Mirror Link. It also gets few important features as the mobile phone dock with built in charging ports, seat height adjustment option for the driver, climate control, glove box cooling, electrically adjustable Outside Rear View Mirrors (ORVMs) and plenty more to challenge its rivals. Boot capacity has been retained at 407 litres.

The Petrol trims of the new facelift Xcent are powered by the existing 1.2L Kappa petrol engine that produces 83bhp worth power and 114Nm of peak torque. The petrol trims come in six variants- five of them paired to a 5-speed manual transmission and one paired to a 4-speed automatic transmission. Hyundai Xcent claims to return a mileage of 20.1kmpl on the manual and 17.3kmpl on the automatic variant.

The Diesel variants on the other hand, gets only 5-speed manual transmission and gain power from an upgraded 1.2L CRDi engine that delivers 74bhp and a peak torque of 190Nm. The expected mileage is around 25.4kmpl on these variants.

The Safety features lack an ABS option as before, but have been provided with a set of dual airbags at the front row. The New Xcent definitely has gone through an impressive makeover to mark its presence and simultaneously challenge its rivals in the market like Tata Tigor, Honda Amaze, Ford Aspire, Volkswagen Ameo and most importantly the upcoming 2017 Suzuki Swift Dzire.
