Piaggio Group recently launched two superbikes named Aprilia Shiver 900 and Dorsoduro 900 in India, from their flagship brand Aprilia. The bikes originally priced at Rs.13.33 lakh (Shiver 900) and Rs.13.84 lakh (Dorsoduro 900) are sold at an introductory price of Rs.11.99 lakh and Rs.12.50 lakh (all prices, Ex-showroom Pune) respectively until June 30th, 2017. Aprilia that has marked its presence in the country earlier through bikes like Tuono and RSV4 adds two more to their Indian line-up through this launch.
Aprilia Shiver 900 replaces the existing Shiver 750 upon launch and is the first motorcycle to reach India under the Shiver brand. This naked sports bike has been fine tuned to deliver better power (at bottom and mid-range) and increased torque at any rpm without compromising on the riding comfort and ease. The exterior revisions include new side covers on the fuel tank, side panels, tail fairing and front mudguard to enhance its sporty looks. The steel Trellis and Aluminium plates frame contributes to the sleeker appearance. This sports bike features ride-by-wire electronic accelerator system and an advanced traction control system as well. In fact, Aprilia were the pioneers to introduce ride-by-wire technology which later became accepted world-wide.
The naked roadster gets its power from an upgraded 896cc V-twin engine (BS-IV compliant) coupled to a 6-speed transmission that now produces 95bhp at 8750rpm and 90Nm at 6500rpm. Other updates include a 4.3 inch TFT instrument cluster with light sensors. There is also an optional Aprilia Multimedia Platform kit available that provides smartphone connectivity to this panel. Shiver gets three riding modes- Sport, Touring and Rain with varied power delivery and throttle response.
Aprilia Dorsoduro 900 comes as a replacement to the Dorsoduro 750 and features a dual-purpose motorcycle unlike the Shiver 900. Dorsoduro is a familiar name here amongst the sophisticated youth as Aprilia already has its 1200 model selling in the market.
The Dorsoduro 900 shares its mechanicals with the Shiver 900 and gets all three riding modes as its sibling. Sports mode provides aggressive response while Touring mode gives a milder response for every day touring. Rain mode helps easy ride through wet and slippery terrains on rainy days. Thanks to the adjustable three-way traction control. Again similar to the Shiver 900, this bike features an upgraded ride-by-wire technology.
This motorcycle uses the same 896cc BS-compliant V-twin engine that has been fine tuned to produce better power and torque. Suspension duties are handled by light weight Kayaba upside down forks at the front and mono-shock suspension at the rear.
Aprilia Shiver 900 and Dorsoduro 900 were unveiled at the 2016 EICMA Motorcycle Show has now officially reached the Indian shores as CBUs (Completely Built Units). Piaggio Group will be retailing these siblings through their existing Motoplex outlets in Pune, Chennai, Kochi, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

Royal Enfield had updated engines on their two best-selling models,Bullet 500 and the Continental GT in the European Market. Now they have launched the 2017 Classic 500 and the Himalayan too with an updated Euro-IV compliant engine. The Eicher Motors owned company is strengthening its global portfolio with updated models and an increasing number of showrooms worldwide.
Royal Enfield motorcycles powered by BS-IV engines are now available in India. The entire lineup is said to have received the engine upgrades with AHO (Automatic Headlamp On) feature (both being stringent norms), even though no official statement has been released by the company yet. According to reports from financial express, Electra 350 was spotted already on sale at one of the company dealerships with updated features as the BS-IV engine and AHO. Other models too are believed to go on sale with the same upgrades in another week, as April 1st, 2017 is the deadline for these norms to be implemented on all motor vehicles in India. The prices have been hiked for the new range of BS-IV motorcycles from Royal Enfield.

Not many cosmetic updates have been provided on this best seller. However, few prominent tweaks are seen like the new pair of LED positioning lamps that fit perfectly into the chrome apron on the front, a protuberant Honda badge and also a mobile charging socket.
Bajaj has launched Dominar 400 with a heavy price tag; something that has been familiar here only with the Royal Enfield range of motorcycles. Entering the 1-2 lakh price range itself is a daring game, but seems like Bajaj has everything in place to claim its position in the premium bike segment.
