Mahindra and Mahindra announce petrol heads have to wait a year more for the all new G4 SsangYong Rexton. That's disappointing, of course. The carmakers say they need to make a machine that predicts the future of their product in a cost perspective.
This SUV is like the hulk in Marvel movies getting bigger, meaner and greener each time. The G4 Rexton made its global debut at the Seoul motor show, in April.
Rexton is powered by a 2.2 litre V4 e-Xdi220 diesel engine which delivers 187bhp and 420Nm of torque. This motor comes with two gearbox options, 6 speed manual and a traditional 7 speed torque converter automatic, which is from Mercedes. The new car embodies robust and dynamic SUV styling and blends drivability with high levels of safety that includes nine airbags. With an engine mounted at its front and an option to switch between a rear-wheel drive and a 4x4, Rexton will prove to be a class-leading contender. The car's 4-wheel drive system draws on SsangYong's years of experience in 4WD technology. With rear wheel drive under normal driving conditions for comfort and fuel efficiency, there is also 4WD with high/low ratios for when on and off-road conditions demand.
A combination of double wishbone suspension at the front and multi-link independent suspension at the rear ensures a high level of driving stability and sufficiently absorbed shocks from the rough terrain. The vehicle immediately recovers its stability without losing traction though in the wet and slippery surfaces. SsangYong Rexton is a massive 4850mm long, 1920mm wide, 1800mm high, and has a 2865mm wheelbase.
